Like most social media, reddit has gotten progressively worse. I haven't had an account there since 2015 or so when the astroturfing and bots really took over. I still lurk on a few communities using the redlib frontend, but whenever I accidentally visit the official site I'm somehow always surprised with how bad it's gotten. Reddit died with Aaron Swartz.

Off topic: I heard yesterday on BBC radio interviews of people in the capital of the mother land noting that they get their news via Telegram, and generally try to avoid TV and radio news there, and they claimed they avoid discussions of politics. Does that appear to be common in the mother land?

Well, it depends on age as everywhere I guess - old people watch TV, and young/middle age people use Telegram. Telegram is blocked nowadays though, so it's not so simple to use - you need to find an unblocked VPN, which are usually shady as all good reputation ones are blocked.

As for avoiding political discussion that's also true as a lot of opinions are criminalized - being anti-war, or supporting Ukraine in any way.

Generally it's hard to determine the public mood as people don't reply sincerely to polls, and allowed ones are probably faked in some ways. Navalny allies try to do their own independent sociology via phone calls from abroad.
