The context in which AI is used is the key.

I'm using AI to rebuild a program(s) I wrote back in 2008-2015 with Java 11-ish. It was a Frankenstein of a program as it was 4 separate apps developed at different times duct taped together to make one functioning application. All have to talk to each other even though they were never designed to.

Creating a UI, sorting algorithms and the setting up of a database, I don't need to redo it all again. AI is perfect for this job. It can read the old code and update everything to one standard on Java 23. It requires little supervision and reasonable amounts of review but so far it's working great with the update about 80% done. While it's working I can do other business related work like orders. In this context it's great. It's doubling my personal productivity. No one is being replaced. I'm just getting more done every day.

I also think AI is the answer to a lot of the recent "subscription based, own nothing" mentality. The PS5 Hack, the Adobe suite recreation, I've even see a reasonable Microsoft office rip off made by AI. I personally used AI to hack a shitty WiFi security cam that required it's shitty Chinese app to work. It's now working great with iSpy as a regular IP cam. AI is great for sticking it to greedy corporations/ data harvesters. These assholes are going to get what's coming to them. Does you BMW require a $10/month sub for heated seats? There's an AI hack for that!

The issue comes with the fall out. Are you working for Adobe? Might want to start putting out feelers. A lot of corps who are milking people for quick cash (The quick nickle of the long dime) are going to lose that income. People are then going to loose jobs. SO yeah, people are right to be afraid in that regards.

People should also fear the social control that is coming but that's a whole different conversation.
