Well at first they talk about the cause of the power outage. That's caused by the pole shift / EM field weakening. But then he has to explain that the crust is locked MAGNETICALLY to the mantle and that means the geographic poles will shift too, as the evidence says.
I understand that at first he wants to only mention the pole shift because that's plenty dramatic. There are other even more dramatic events tied into this that he didn't even mention at all. Most people's minds can take only so much stretching at once...
