I think it would be cool to get people who have never done anything with game development to do some hello world level stuff (or more if they want). We could do that together.
But I think it would help get the ball rolling if we knew who was at least a little interested in game development, and who has zero interest.
I am a little interested, I forgot how to program, but I have learned 37 languages in the past 58 years.
I also used to actively code in about 8 languages around the same time. But then I found javascript and it took over all my needs. It was great. Until people turned its culture into framework hell.
More related to the thread: I want to set up some "challenges". Challenge is a wrong word, because we are going to keep it so simple. I want to make it so anyone can contribute and share their thing. Make it so the baseline thing is just scratching an atom into whichever surface. Then people can take it further if they want.
What is the challenge? Making a video game, or just pushing pixels in a demo?
Well, if more people were interested, I was going to have us figure that out as a group, and generally community develop the format.
I guess I generally want to make a video game dev learning pod. Identifying the pod is the first step.
One idea is to make the challenge fairly board so both absolute beginners and more advanced people can contribute. Almost the more lame a challenge seems the more cool stuff people can make at different levels.
Lamest challenge possible: Make a triangle. But that works for people who are just starting to push pixels to a screen via frame buffer, or people doing something more advanced who can do a quick triangle themed mini-project.
That or a pod could follow a book together. Lots of ways a learning pod could work.
