The biological niche of humanity is that we can think. And we've had a monopoly on it. Engineering away your niche is really fucking stupid. Soon we'll face one of three outcomes. Either we become only as good as any other animal, and not worth pouring resources into. Or we become pests that now do nothing for the corporate power centers which now have exactly zero humans in them. Or our unique ability to think / create better neurons still differentiates us from other animals and we become a kind of brain cattle. Our brains get scooped out and put into wet server farms.
All of them are low probability because they can't sum above 1. But the odds of things working out for us are pretty slim.
We could raise interest rates and pop the AI bubble in record time. Cats mostly out of the bag, but if we shut down the funding, we might be able to do some good with what we have so far.

The problem is there is more than one kind of value in this world. Certainly more than two. But of two contrasting types one would be human value. Value that makes the world more human and is good for people. Value by humans for humans. And an alternate kind is power value. Utilitarian value towards seeking power. And it seems that AI is a lot more useful than people at that second kind of value. And sadly, the second kind is where most GDP goes, and how most people (at least near me), are able justify being worthy to put food on the table.
The first kind of value is why I never watch anything with AI on youtube. I want to go out of my way to expose myself to the coolest shit people do. If I want more exposure to AI than I already get, then I can just query bots more. No point in seeing it on youtube.

Yes this is true. The fundamental foundation level would be sustainability - if people can survive. Things get more comfortable up from there. Making money (which is now a changing paradigm), or making a living/career (also changing), or being part of making the new human communities that will survive the looming food and energy crises as well as mass eugenics efforts. Not everyone is smart enough, flexible/adaptable enough, or connected/networked enough to survive what's coming.

Anyhow, I'm just spitballing. AI will help those who can make use of it, and will potentially make life much more difficult for those who cannot compete. I worry that extreme income inequality will increase with consolidated power, driven by AI manipulation.
