Very interesting. Marshall McLuhan predicted the internet before it came around. This is like predicting what will happen without the internet while it exists.
I guess we will still have radios, tvs, phones? Fax machines make a resurgence? This would be like human civilization going backwards which isn't unheard of.
Internet allows information to flow very fast, without it information still flows, just slower.
It's interesting, shut down internet to quell AI. Terminator came out on 1984, internet did exist but wasn't as widespread yet. Just used by military really. So that's probably why the story is about AI taking over the military basically. If internet was turned off could that stop skynet?
I already have a DOS environment with a word processor and games for if I don't want the distraction of the Internet. The absence of online capabilities is less relevant when the Internet is shut off. However, I still like it for how self-contained it is. The documentation is at your fingertips. On GNU there's man but that's reference material. If you want to get up to speed with a program, you'll have to look up a tutorial most of the time. Even graphical programs don't include manuals now. That being said, I know how to use my GNU programs so that isn't super relevant. I can't my finger on why but I really like a DOS environment for occasions like these.
I'd download wackypedia, books, movies, and courses. Terrabytes worth. I already have offline maps.
Busting out the 56.6k. Pretty sure I can remember how to setup a BBS. Still have land lines too! (For my business.)
Not sure how business would work though. Things are completely dependent on email these days. Everything from orders, supplies and even catalogues get sent via email.
If we knew it was coming I could prep pretty good but so would AI. It could go dormant somewhere until the tech is reestablished.

I have some new drives, a new RAID, and another new dock that I still haven't set up. Plus I'd switch everything to Linux.

I'd meet people more often, like we used to do.
We could also build EMP devices, steal from data centres, encrypt satellite transmissions, while disabling and reprogramming military robots.
